As an artist Myself, I Love art games, however just because you have an art game doesn't give you the right to make a shitty game. This is the problem with this game. yes i get the whole story of the guardian, yes I get that it is a artistic look of pixel art along with japanese haikus/ and or poems to tell the story, thats not my problem with this game.

-GAMEPLAY----------------------------
--------------
This is my main problem with the game, at first I had no idea what I was looking at when I first started the game, Ithe text letters were very big so natually I would think that the character sprites where to be a little identifiable, however I noticed that I was a small pixel on a screen, for a while this was confusing, but I guess this is a way of self inserting yourself without the effort. I feel as though having your character resemble a pixel is very odd, and the controls are very diffucult to navigate such a small pixel. perhaps if it was a bit bigger i could care, but it wasn't so it completely took me out.

The narritive also took me out of the expirence, as well, having to stop the pace of the game to listen to the story was DREADFULL, in a game you always wanna keep pace, and this did not do so well

You're art is good and so is your story, now work on that gameplay

very well, but also very challenge

well now, this game is very good, although it has a few bugs in it. perhaps the only bugs are what I like to call "challenge spikes" the type of thing that can make a great game or make a very terrible game, in this case, the challenge spike is much like an old proverb "feed a man a fish, and he will eat, teach a man to fish, and he will never go hungry." what i mean by that is, once you've unlocked a few characters, the game becomes extremely easy, but its not so easy trying to get the character .

the graphics are very nice, staying in one style when needed to, I'm actually proud that you put the same type of style of the SMB enemies, platforms, bosses, etc. the same to any of the characters. wchihc by the way, are very nice selection of characters, (since I'm a bit of a brony, Rainbow dash, wouldn't be so bad as an addition ;P) 10/10

the sound WAS FUCKING AMAZING, mad props to wolfgun, my favorite music was the bonus stages, fucking awesome, if I could judge only the music it would be like a 12/10

now then, Game play, here is where i ran into a few issues, the first level of the level is moderately easy, but then once you get to the first boss, I wanted to grab the key, think that "well, in the pirit of SMB, I wonder if there will be phantos" and boy was I right...but jesus fuck, I thought that the phantos were so much of a challenge spike, it made the game completely unenjoyable (not to mention the first boss' unlock) however once you start getting used to it, its no big deal. and then you want to start unlocking ALL of the characters. which is where i found its a bit of a challenge. I would have made the first boss Phanto a bit slower than the rest, to get the audience familiar with the phanto movements , and THEN hit me with the crazy fast speed and homing attacks (which in my opinion seem kind of cheap)

another problem I also had is, once you've unlocked the amazing guy, or guile, it loses its "speed challenge" and becomes more of a "lets see what I can break...ohmygod this is sooo boring challenge"

extra features are good, stage creator is nice and simple yet still assessable, and nice.

all in all, you could of made the difficulty spikes a little less...well..spikey, but it was still fun and enjoyable, and I still love the series, very good job psy city, bravo

art is art

well to start off, I'm going to say I played the game fully, not half way, or pick it up then drop it, no I played it fully. I am also going to tell you that I am a fan of art games, and I know its Halloween, so of course the theme will be haunted or scary of some sort.

now then onto the review, to be honest this game has atmosphere, but that's about it, It has a much of a disturbing and creepy atmosphere you would if you were to watch an an experimental film, or reading very scary literature such as things called "creepy pastas," however art wise, there isn't much to it, I understand most of this is fantasy or symbolism, but i can't see it, nor can i get it, its like telling someone to draw a "scrakyloid ekynios"(made that up by the way) you're only going to interpret it by what you can see or get, so what I got from this is that some alien is here to save a goddess, from a god that went wrong. but it doesn't make much more else sense than that, form an art perspective its like painting a really bad Picasso, with a meaning of a story you made up. in short If you have something unfamiliar with us, make sure you express that clearly.

Graphics wise, it wasn't so bad, I love pixel games, and pixel art, some of the background could use some more work though, as well as some of the props, so no real complaints there.

NOW THEN, the gameplay is very bad, now its one thing to make a game that has artistic qualities, and make it so that way there is a story behind it, but the thing is, when there's no comprehendable story, the gameplay is severely noticeable. the physics engine was okay, but jumping is very sticky, and narrow, I found my self trying to jump in a narrow path onto a fan thing (red halo thing that boots you up) and often finding that I missed it, and had to go again, walking is okay, but very slow, I found jumping to be a more faster way to get around, normally this would be a problem, however since you wanted to incorprate enemies and such, it makes for horrible controls.

the level design seems roughly uninspired, as do puzzles and enemy placement, it would seem that with the type of enemies in the game you could at least have accomdated for them as well, such as a jump shoot, or a shield jump.

Sound wise, again, is terrible, and yet at the same time is alright for this type of atmoshpere, with out it, it wouldn't have made the same atmoshpere that the game was supposed to go for. for this type I would say that it was okay and meh at its best, it would have been nice to include some creepy and melancholic piano pieces or such sort. even some expiremental violins would be still keeping the atmosphere.

Overall, its OKAY, its certainly not the best game where there has been a very creepy and disturbing atmosphere, but this one was handled where you need it to. it just needs small and minor improvements, done to mostly game mechanics and story writing, other than that it did give me a very creepy and disturbed atmosphere, however only to the point where it got annoying.

5/10

very nice

I like this song, in fact I think the drums and trippy kind of feel make the song seem very interesting, as a suggestion, try adding in some dramatic piano along with it, ( not that itwould make the song any cooler than it already is) cool song dude

its my anthem

I like this song, it happens to have a good punk vibe to it, however it gives me that feeling I got when I first listined to my first punk song...keep it up!!
