What they're doing is either brute-forcing or dictionary attacks, maybe both, which is VERY easy to do if you have the time to wait for it to finish. There's basically a program that tries different combinations for a password until it gets it right. It doesn't target your NG account specifically, but your email account, as many don't stop you from trying to log in after getting your password wrong a couple of times. It'd be best to make both your NG account and email account secure though, by using characters other than just letters for your NG account because NG passwords only allow letters and numbers, and by adding as many special characters and mixing it up as much as you can on your email acct.
